DMEM, high in sugar, with pyruvate

DMEM (Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium) is a widely used basal medium that can be used to support the growth of many species of mammalian cells. Cells that have been successfully cultured in DMEM include primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, smooth muscle cells, and cell lines such as HeLa, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12. Life Technologies offers a wide range of DMEM modified media for a wide range of cell culture applications.

Penicillin-streptomycin (10,000 U/mL)
The solution contained 10,000 units/mL of penicillin and 10,000 μg/mL of streptomycin. Antibiotics – Penicillin and streptomycin have a potent combined antimicrobial effect against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and can be used to prevent bacterial contamination of cell cultures. Penicillin was originally purified from the fungus Penicillium and works by directly interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall and indirectly by triggering the release of enzymes to further alter the cell wall. Streptomycin was originally purified from Streptomyces gray. Its mechanism of action is binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, which in turn inhibits protein synthesis and leads to the death of sensitive bacteria.
